Report from Cork Self Help Group Meeting
Date: 6 October 2009
Report:
It was a pleasure indeed to have a positive meeting in October with some new faces and familiar ones too. I think a self-help group like ours needs consistency combined with a growing number to function effectively and develop in the long term.
Jonathon Linklater of the ISA presented the DVD, Transcending Stuttering. The overall message was very positive, with the interviewees driving home the message that the problems presented by the condition of stammering can indeed be overcome. At least one described his stammering as “a gift”, a sentiment with which few present agreed.
Watching the DVD helped bring a focus to the meeting, and it is our intention to present further documentaries in the future. The success of the Cork group depends, of course, on people continuing to attend meetings, so one hopes our November meeting will be as well attended.
