Report from Galway Self Help Group Meeting
Date: 3 November 2009
Report:
The momentum from the last meeting, our best-attended one since the beginning of the group, continued with 11 people in attendance this time, including one new person. We began with a welcome, an introduction and an announcement about the latest news regarding the individual and group therapy which is planned to be made available to members of the group.
We began the meeting proper with a relaxation exercise and then broke up into groups of three or four to discuss how our speech has been and to practise our speech in a safe environment. We then returned to the big group and anyone who so wished could report what they discussed in the small groups.
After our tea break, we watched another bit of the DVD on stammering and had another brief discussion. Finally we discussed what people would like to do in future meetings. Among the suggestions were that we should have that discussion early on in the meeting rather than leaving it until the end when the time is almost up, and also it was suggested that we should practise reading.
We'll have our next meeting, our final one for 2009, on Tuesday 1st December at 8pm, in the Radisson Hotel as usual. All welcome!
