Report from Galway Self Help Group Meeting
Date: 2 March 2010
Report:
Hi to all,
A very constructive team building meeting was had for this month. A good attendance was evident.
It was decided that the first aspect of tonight's meeting should discuss the general running of the workings behind our meetings. This included forming a core group of 'volunteer' members to discuss and delegate basic responsibilities required to run a volunteer group. As usual this was completed in a very supportive and open fashion with responsibilities being taken on a temporary basis and usually in association with another group volunteer. A core group of five volunteer members was formed, and again in the true spirit of the Galway support group this idea was supported by all. Genuine thanks must be given to James and also Diarmuid who has completed much of this work to date.
After our break, we returned to our usual proceedings of our meetings. These included a relaxation exercise and fellow members allowing each other to share how their speech has been since we last met. This is always very helpful and allows us all to stutter freely in a very safe and non-judgemental environment..
Upcoming Speech and Language Therapy (group and solo) was also discussed which all group members will be able to avail of through the HSE at the end of the March. This is a wonderful free opportunity for all to discuss our personal stammering situations with a recognised professional.
We look forward to meeting again in April and any of you readers would be most welcome to join us.
