ISAYiT - Summer Drama Camp for young people who Stammer
Irish Stammering Association is delighted to be able to bring you news of a summer drama workshop for young people who stammer. Irish Stammering Association Youth Theatre (ISAYiT) will be holding a three-day summer group from July 28th – 30th (Wednesday to Friday) from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
ISAYiT will be run by Cathal Quinn, voice coach with the Gaiety School of Acting. The workshops are open to children who stammer between the ages of 8 -14 and have been running successfully over the last year. The groups have led to showcases from the performers as well as the development of a video showing how stammering need not hold anyone back.
It is an opportunity for children who stammer to express themselves creatively among a group of their peers in an environment where they will not be judged by how they speak. We plan to do some puppetry: to make some puppets, paint a puppet theatre, create some stories that switch between puppets and full scale models of the puppets - which will be you dressed up - as well as singing songs, playing games and having lots of fun!
Places are subsidised by ISA and HSE, €60 for members of the ISA, and €100 for non-members. If you are not currently a member you can join at registration for €20 per annum.
Feedback from children and parents from previous groups has been very positive. From ISAYiT...
- "I can be myself"
- "I was able to talk in front of an audience"
- "Don't worry, it doesn't have to be perfect"
- "I had a great time and met lots of new friends"
Parents said, my child learned...
- "that she can do things and not to assume she can't"
- "to take risks and relax"
- "that he's not the only one and he's more confident in himself"
