Report from Waterford Self Help Group Meeting

Date: 5 November 2009

Report:

At the meeting this month we distributed out the I.S.A newsletter and membership forms. Some of our members said they would like to get involved with the organisation.

It was discussed in the group that we would have the family night in the New Year and would start planning the content of this night at the next meeting when we had all our members there.

In our discussion tonight we talked about the preconceptions that we have built up about the listener in some of our stuttering experiences, and that we could have been way off the mark in knowing what the other person was thinking.

We also discussed the recent National Stammering Awareness Day. People saw it as a success and how it was great to see people from different approaches working on a common goal of raising the awareness for people who stammer.

It was agreed that two of our members would seek to do a local radio interview before Christmas to raise the profile of the self help group in Waterford.
